There are parts that are a little slow, but the author's wit definitely makes up for it. The reason for the 3 stars is two-fold: the ending was abrupt (actually, it's not an ending at all) and the fact that the author states in her blog that the 2nd book is complete yet she won't release it until she had 100 reviews on this one. That's a pretty desperate marketing scheme to me. I'm tiring of the new trend where authors publish 2 half-books and masquerade them as separate books when they're actually 1 complete book published in 2 installments. It's one thing to write a complete book and then a sequel but it's frustrating to the reader to read 1/2 a book then have to wait months for the ending.

I really enjoyed the tone of the book lighthearted and engaging. The author illustrates the concept of "Be the change you want to see in the world" from a humorous--dare I say hilarious?--viewpoint. This book is so funny it's almost ridiculous yet it's somewhat plausible.

If you're hesitant about reading a book with "yoga" in the title, then don't let that deter you. I don't practice yoga; I don't believe in the spiritual implications and associations made about yoga, but I still enjoyed this fictional story.

I gave the book only 4 stars because the worldview presented is very liberal. I do not recommend this book for children or teenagers because of mature sexual-orientation related and extramarital intimacy topics. This book is NOT graphic.
There was no ending. The book just stopped. A real gripe of mine is when a book will be the first of a sequel but there is no indication in the description. Therefore, I will not read any more of this author's books. It's too bad, because I really loved the book. If it weren't for this "trick," I would have given it 5 stars.

I loved the wit and humor of the main character, and how she developed and grew emotionally and spiritually as an unintended consequence of her deception.

Is this her?...technically incorrect (Is this SHE?)...but common usage of the English language is changing for the better, I think. "Is it she?" sounds unnatural and stilted. (Same with using a plural pronoun object with a singular pronoun subject...such as, "Did anyone not find their books?" Did anyone not find his or her books sounds very stilted also.

It almost sounds like angles singing. (ANGELS)

At one point someone from the Unity Church wanted her to speak at his church. Then later, she received an email from the "Unitarian guy." Unity and Unitarian are two different churches.
If you like to read a book that is fun and full of laugh-out-loud moments, then Secrets of a Spiritual Guru is the book for you. Author Tamara Lee Dorris weaves an entertaining tale written in the first person narrative that follows the everyday trials and tribulations of real estate agent Melissa Murphy.

Melissa's world is turned upside down when Ron, her live-in boyfriend of four years, leaves her for Shanza, his yoga instructor. Determined to win Ron back, Melissa searches the internet to find information about Shanza's yoga studio, and discovers that Shanza is in need of a spiritual blogger, so Melissa applies for the position with no prior knowledge of yoga or any spirituality/enlightenment concepts. Can Melissa pull off the role as a yoga/spiritual guru and win back the heart of Ron, or will she be made out as a fraud if the truth comes out?

It was so much fun following Melissa as she overcomes challenges while trying to keep her personal and professional life on track. There is a nice balance of entertainment and spiritual concepts interwoven throughout the story. The reader is kept engaged as Melissa tackles the challenges in the real estate industry, learning and blogging about yoga and the variety of spirituality concepts, and her romantic issues with ex-boyfriend Ron. Melissa is a sassy and quirky lady that keeps the reader laughing with her witty humor and neurotic misadventures, it's easy for the reader to relate to the everyday life situations that she faced.

I really enjoyed the references to yoga and the spiritual teachings that were sprinkled throughout the book with a mixture of humor and real life examples. What more could a reader ask for then to be entertained and enlightened? This is a funny, insightful, refreshing and thoroughly enjoyable story that will leave a smile on your face.

Secrets of a Spiritual Guru is a delightful fast paced story that is chick lit at its very best. The only problem with the story is that the author leaves the reader wanting more with an open-ended conclusion that will be continued in the second book of the Guru Series.

The heroine, Melissa is a nut. And I say that in a good, laugh my behind off at her antics kind of way. Ms. Doris is brilliant with her writing. She’s created a character whose intelligent, outspoken and a bit of a liar, but it doesn’t stop the reader from liking her.

I rooted for her all the way and was glad when things turned out the way they did in the end. Oh, Melissa ( written with a head shake). I’m still laughing over a few of the scenes. Her embrace of Yoga impressed me along with her ability to create such engaging blog posts about it.

A wonderful novel that I would recommend to any chick lit fan. Heck to any reader in the world whether or not you like yoga, borderline alcoholics, blogging, and hot coworkers. Namaste.
