I ran into Beverly at a book festival in WI. I had a fun time getting to know her. I ended up grabbing the second book of hers from this series because I thought the monkey on the cover was cute, and still do. I read this book to my son during bedtime. The book picks up were the last one left off. We hadn’t read the first one, but this one spends a great deal of time explaining what happened in the first book. If it were anything like this book in which many fun events were happening all the time, I still feel like I missed out on a great deal of the story and understanding the relationship between the two main characters from the first book, so anyone reading this review, you should read the first book before this one.
In this book you meet two new characters. One of them is a boy that can’t walk and another is a monkey that is afraid to climb up to high places. There is so much story happening in these little pages that the book is almost too small to confine such an adventure. I’ve heard The author many times try to market her books as anti-bully propaganda, but I sensed just a hint of such a message in this addition. I find the greater message was to be how beneficial your friend’s differences can be. It’s not about not making fun of someone who is different, but that the more diverse the members of your team are, the stronger your team will be. My son fell asleep before the last two pages, but I had to keep reading to finish it, and I’m glad I did.
